What do you want to be when you grow up?

Posted by Julie

I sewed my own “Beanie Babies” as a child.  That’s right,  I sewed ‘em up and stuffed ‘em with rice.  I think that was the first hint that I might become a soft goods designer… or one of Santa’s elves.

When these plastic pellet- filled plush toys became a craze, I was just the right age to want them.  But I was also just the right age to be required to use my own money to buy them. And when deciding what to spend my precious birthday money on, N SYNC discs were more of a priority to me than Beanies, so I never accumulated too many of the little critters.

However, not wanting the Beanie fad to completely pass me by, I resorted to sewing my own.  I had already been sewing clothing for my Barbie Dolls for a couple of years, so why not plush toys?  I wasn’t to be trusted using my mother’s sewing machine yet , so I completely hand-stitched my first couple of Beanies. I even made my own little heart-shaped tags for them with made up names, just like the real deal.  I’ve always been obsessed with every little detail–perhaps another hint of what was to come in my adult life. (more…)

Extraordinary Video

Posted by Michael

Hidden Discount Code: 40FOR40

This is an amazing and moving video about a WWII fighter pilot’s reunion with the plane he flew.

I’m an aviation buff, and the P-51 Mustang happens to be my favorite airplane of all time. It is a beautiful machine, ahead of its time in every way, and to me, a design icon. For anyone else who’s into it, the flying footage alone makes the video worth every minute spent watching it.

But this story is much more than an air show. Even if planes aren’t your thing, I think you will find this short film to be a real goosebump-generator. If you are at all patriotic, or are a history buff, or just love a great (true) story, you might even mist up a bit.

Another great customer service experience where you least expect it

Yeah, I know this video has been around, but it never gets old. If there’s any business that needs a dose of humanity, it’s the US airline industry. And this, well, industrious Southwest flight attendant proves that it is possible.  Usually people don’t smile until they get *off* the plane. Hope I’m on one of his flights some day.

I heart Popchips!

Posted by Michael

I’m sorry, I realize that potato chips may not be as attention-getting as a smartphone app that does your laundry. But I have to post on this. I just have to.

I love Popchips.

I love Popchips a lot.

What are Popchips? They are all-natural (and *real* all-natural, not “marketing* all natural) potato chips made by exploding them with heated air, much like popcorn (do I have to say “hence the name?”). They are light, completely greaseless, delicious and addictive as all getout, and… are you ready… a whole big bag (not an airline-sized snack pack) has only 300 calories. People, I can’t overemphasize the importance of this innovation. It is bigger than the Segway–OK, bad example. It is bigger than the iPhone. It is to me at least–I use a Blackberry.

I walked into my office on my birthday last month to find my desk covered in bags of Popchips. Clearly my staff knows of my problem, but I have to live with that.

This is not an advertisement for Popchips; they don’t even know I’m posting this. I do not work for Popchips. I do not get a commission from Popchips. I pay full price for all my popchips. OK, so I know the CEO, but I only came in contact with him AFTER falling in love with Popchips. If you know what’s good for you, you will drop what you’re doing and go get some Popchips.

My work here is done.

Meet our receptionist… you might as well, she’s not going anywhere.

Posted by Nancy

Visitors to our office always comment on Mayda Resin, our beautiful receptionist. So we thought you’d like to meet her. Mayda is not only easy on the eyes, but she never leaves her desk, never has a complaint or unfriendly word, and has never asked for a raise. In fact, we don’t even pay her, and she is still at her desk every single day, even weekends.

Although she can be a bit boring, we have been entertained on more than one occasion when a delivery man or other visitor has walked in the front door, and at first glance, shot that “well hello there” look at Mayda. And one or two have even started talking to her before catching on.

If you call our office, you may have the pleasure of speaking to her. But probably not.
